Plenty of Shoreline kitchens were plumbed to what was acceptable at the time and never touched since. When we replace a section, it goes back in to today's Uniform Plumbing Code — correct diameter, correct grade, correct fittings, properly supported.

Recent Work in Shoreline
In July we rebuilt the kitchen drainage in a Shoreline home where the sink had never drained properly. Caleb opened the back of the cabinet, dropped the existing drain stub-out to a workable height, then replaced the whole kitchen branch drain from the sink connection back to the main trunk line. The new run went in as 2-inch ABS at proper grade, which is what current code calls for on a kitchen waste line — the old one was undersized for what a modern sink and dishwasher put through it.
The homeowner had been living with a slow sink since they bought the place, assuming it just needed cabling more often. It didn't.
He also fitted a new dishwasher air gap and reconnected the dishwasher drain to the new line. The whole system got flow-tested and checked for leaks before we handed the kitchen back.
