In June a homeowner in one of the city's original 1950s houses, a short walk from Town Center, called because every tap had dropped to a trickle. Caleb traced it to the water service between the meter and the house, and at the meter connection the crew found a length of poly pipe spliced onto the old galvanized service. That transition was the likely leak, the rest of the line wasn't worth saving, and the homeowner chose to replace the service and repipe the interior as a single project.
Outside, the crew trenched across the front yard, tunneled beneath the sidewalk so it never had to be cut, ran a new 1-inch PEX-A service and abandoned the old line in place. Inside, the galvanized came out of the crawlspace and every accessible area, and new PEX-A went to the kitchen sink, bathroom sink, toilet, laundry and a new ice-maker box, with a new laundry box, two new hose bibs, new angle stops at each fixture, and a clean reconnection to the copper feeding the water heater.
One honest detail from the report: the bathtub branch stayed on its original galvanized pipe, because replacing it meant opening finished shower walls or kitchen cabinetry and the homeowner chose not to. We wrote that down, along with a note that the exterior tankless water heater was overdue for descaling, and tested everything new under operating pressure before the water went back on.
